TEAMWORK : TEAM STARTS, TEAM WORKS,
TEAM GROWS
Effective teams have a number of characteristics which you can improve in
order of importance: nr.1, nr.2, nr.3, nr.4, nr. 5.
Too frequently there are companies which blame the misfunctioning of
a project team or management team to the communication or to the
assumption that Mr X cannot hurry up with Ms Y.
However It is wise starting to verify if
the strategy is understood correctly. Once you have checked this you can
work out the structure and discuss the expectations of all the
participants.
1) The objectives are common, clearly and collectively accepted.
2) Distinguishing and allocating the tasks. Consider responsibility and
competence for the different items:
Þ contents of the task: technically -
administratively - logistical - commercially,
Þ organisationally: planning - proactively regulating matters
- trouble shooting,
Þ team qualities: personal drives correspond with the specific role in the team,
Þ portfolios on behalf of the team: e.g.
quality improvement, software development or technical training
will be organized by an employee on behalf of the team.
3) There are appointments concerning the communication to relevant
departments in the company. Beside that it’s arranged how to contact the
suppliers and the clients.
And there will be a book of guidelines and
rules considering:
- Quality
- Working hours
- Improvement projects
- Performance indicators
4) In a forming stage the emphasis lies on:
-Objectives are introduced and the activities are scheduled,
-The scope is clear: which working-territory
belongs to the team,
-Fixed meeting-schedules with links between the several meetings,
-Take time to explain the mission, to do the SWOT,
-Improvements are done by multimix projectteams, including members
of the staff.
5) Effectively working relations between the team members exist
when:
-
one has faith in each other and helps each
other to learn how to improve,
- the members
agree on the main principles of attitude and behaviour, which they
have formulated themselves,
- the
members know what they can expect of each other.
